Kermit Reisdorph, representing the American Legion Post in Plattsmouth, presents a check to Ashley Babb, Cass County Outreach to benefit the SENCA Food Pantry.
Since the first part of July, the Hugh J Kearns Post No. 56 American Legion in Plattsmouth has donated approximately $900 in monetary gifts and hundreds of dollars in much needed food items to assist Cass County families experiencing food insecurity who utilize the SENCA Food Pantry.
Each year local and area Legion volunteers host at least three different Stuff the Truck events at the Plattsmouth HyVee and No Frills grocery stores. The events take place on designated Saturdays, usually once in late spring, another event in summer/fall and again around the holiday season. The events are well promoted and generously supported by local shoppers.
Donations from these events are shared between local food pantries, including Under His Wings who provides a baby pantry for those with young children in need of specific items that include formula, baby/toddler/child friendly food and diapers. The SENCA food pantry is available by appointment to qualifying households in need of food and is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment please call 402-297-7418.
Any household that is dealing with food insecurity throughout SENCA's six core county service area of Cass, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson should contact their local SENCA office who can assist with emergency food pantries and provide additional resorces including SNAP (Supplemental Nurtition Assistance Program) sign-up.
